The Darkness II Gameplay
The Darkness II continues the story of Jackie Estacado, now the Don of the Franchetti crime family, who carries an ancient power called The Darkness. Players use Jackie’s guns and two demon arms that come from his back. These demon arms can grab, throw, and slash enemies or objects in the environment. The game uses a “quad-wielding” control scheme where players can shoot with two guns while using both demon arms at the same time. Jackie must stay out of light, as it weakens his powers and makes him vulnerable. The story follows Jackie as he fights against a group called The Brotherhood, who want to take The Darkness for themselves. Players can eat the hearts of fallen enemies to gain health back.

The Darkness II has a talent tree where players spend points to unlock new abilities. These include gun improvements, demon arm attacks, and Darkness powers like a black hole pulling in enemies. The game uses cel-shaded graphics that look like a comic book. There is a mode called “Vendettas”, which can be played alone or with up to four players online. In this mode, players control different characters with unique Darkness weapons who work for Jackie. The main story takes about 6-8 hours to complete. The game includes moments where Jackie enters a mental hospital, making players question what is real. There are Relics to find throughout the game that provide background stories about The Darkness.
